I love HSP

High Stakes Poker is the best poker on television. Not 2nd, not even 4th, but THE best.

High Stakes Poker on GSN

As expected, HSP on GSN is superb! This new season started off with a bang and looks to be spectacular! If you’ve never seen it then drop the cable company, sign up with DirecTV and enjoy yourself.

While he was actively involved in his acting career, Kaplan also became involved in financial markets and poker. He made his first appearance at the World Series of Poker in 1978. His biggest win came in July 2004, when he finished third in a World Poker Tour no limit Texas hold ‘em event, earning more than $250,000. He also finished second in the $5000 2005 World Series of Poker Limit Hold ‘em event, winning $222,515.

In 2007, Kaplan won on NBC’s Poker After Dark in the episode “Queens and Kings” after defeating Kristy Gazes heads-up and outlasting fellow professional poker players Howard Lederer, Vanessa Rousso and Annie Duke.

In the 2007 World Series of Poker Kaplan finished in 9th place in the $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E event winning $131,424, the event was eventually won by Freddy Deeb after defeating Bruno Fitoussi in heads-up play.

As of 2007, his total live tournament winnings exceed $1,100,000.[1]

Poker on television

My favorite poker TV show is High Stakes Poker on GSN. It is the only real money high stakes game shown on TV with AJ Benza and the awesome Gabe Kaplan as commentators. Gabe Kaplan is a well-respected poker player in his own right. Take a break from the WSOP reruns on ESPN and check out HSP on GSN, the new season will be starting up soon!

World Series of Poker nearing final table

The action has been hot ‘n’ heavy at the Rio in Las Vegas as the WSOP 2007 is nearing the final table. The only Main Event Winner left in action is Scotty Nguyen. He is playing with aplomb.

Go Scotty! Nguyen this thing!

Doyle Brunson attempts bracelet #11

Doyle Brunson '76Right now Doyle Brunson is competing in the $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha Championship at the World Series of Poker and is currently at the final table. He was recently eclipsed at this year’s Series by Phil Hellmuth in the “bracelet race” after Hellmuth was the first to break the tie he held with Brunson and Johnny Chan.

Brunson continues to play in the biggest poker games in the world, playing $4000/$8000 minimum bets and also at the World Series of Poker. He won his ninth gold bracelet in a mixed games event in 2003, and in 2004 he finished 53rd (in a field of 2,576) in the No Limit Texas hold ‘em Championship event. He won the Legends of Poker World Poker Tour event in 2004 (garnering him a $1.1 million prize), and finished fourth in the WPT’s first championship event. Early in the morning on July 1, 2005, less than a week after Chan had won his 10th gold bracelet - setting a new record - Brunson tied the record by earning his 10th at the 2005 WSOP. This is now one bracelet behind Phil Hellmuth, who earned his 11th bracelet at the WSOP on 2007-06-11.

Go Doyle, we at Poker Pics Blog are pulling for you!
